Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has declared he will be running for Nairobi governorship come 2022 and the presidency in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s Citizen Extra show, the first time MP expressed confidence that he would succeed embattled Governor Mike Sonko in the next polls.
“I will not just vie for the gubernatorial position; I will be the governor of Nairobi County after the 2022 elections. I am the only hope for the residents of Nairobi and in future I will also lead Kenya as its president,” said Babu.
“I am different because I am well organized and a serious intellectual. With my intellect I will organize the city of Nairobi and rid it of its common challenges such as lack of enough water, poor roads and poor waste disposal systems,” Babu added.
Owino’s announcement come days after the Court of Appeal reversed a High Court ruling that nullified his victory in the August 8th, 2017 elections after a petition filed by his competitor Francis Mureithi of Jubilee party. The Appeals Court ruled that Babu was duly elected.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP further asked Nairobi residents to give Governor Mike Sonko time to deliver on his promises. He said it was wrong to judge Sonko’s performance when he has been in office for only eight months, stating that he should be rated at the end of his five-year term.
He told Embakasi East constituents to expect more development from him, now that his election had been upheld.
“I have facilitated the tarmacking and repair of 8 roads in Embakasi East; working with the MCA I have contributed Sh1 million to provide a temporary murram solution for a road in Utawala ward and I have also handed out sh. 25 million worth of bursaries to students of Embakasi that will facilitate their education,” he said.
“I also take responsibility for the title deeds issued recently by the president. It was only because I put the CS and PS into task that the project was successful.”
Give us Owino RESCUE Team…
Give us Owino RESCUE Team first; also show us the Money like Sonko did. Meanwhile: Don’t do like Kidero did; Stole from Mumias Sugar and Nairobi County.
Bohoo..you have no respect…
Bohoo..you have no respect for your boss, why should anyone listen to you.
I will be the next point…
I will be the next point guard for golden state warriors!!
Yes.Its possible you could…
Yes.Its possible you could be the next governor of Nairobi. However,it will depend on who your competition will be.
By the way could you tell Nairobians what you have done with your interlect that has helped kenyans?
lhave asked this before ;Since independance in 1963,or if you want you can go ten years back-how many ingineers, scientists, researchers, mathematicians, journalists ,the whole gambit of interlectials have invented,or improved on existing technology?.with their intellect, are they just spana handlers?Somebody tell me anything noteworthy our interllectuals have contributed to humanity…
Nairobi does not need…
Nairobi does not need politicians for governor. It needs technocrats; financial strategists;and long-range planners. Politicans bicker; technocrats execute. In 2022, show the people your credentials and what you can do for the city and they might elect you.
@Sokora,Nairobians need…
@Sokora,Nairobians need aleader who can harness the talents of technocrats, financial stategists, developers, urban planners, and other players that turn the wheels of development.
I am sure alot of consultation firms, with all the” brains” you mentioned can come up with workable solutions.Implementation is the KEY.It’s not hard to come up with think tanks to solve Nairobis’s problems. They are not unique.Wananchi also have to learn to do their part. No point in throwing takataka anywhere you feel like.I think Sonko will lead ateam of”his buddies” to Kigali to see how its done.Well, how about inviting the mayor of Kigali with his team to come to Nairobi, and do some hands-on work?
There is no excuse that…
There is no excuse that Sonko has been Governor for only eight months. If he has brought no change after eight months of service with all the tools he has, we don’t expect much from him. Sonko is not new in Nairobi. He was a senator there for 5 years. What did he do or help to do? As for you intelligent man Babu, you are in Nairobi too. Can’t you help make a change now instead of waiting for it to go to waste until when you dream to be the governor in 2022? I hope Sonko nominates you his deputy. Give us your resume. Tell us what you achieved as the student leader in your former university. Give us solutions of how the city of Nairobi can be redeemed now instead of telling us to expect you to show up in 2022. We need action now, not your political ambitions. No one will feed from your political ambitions. Use your intellect to make a difference now, not tomorrow. And remember to respect old women who are old enough to be your grandmothers.
Let’s be honest here,…
Let’s be honest here, Nairobi is a gone case.
Anyone thinking that Nairobi can be restored to its previous cleanliness, security and liveableness is misguided.
Even with the best metro planners, engineers and direct ‘statehouse supervision’ it will NEVER improve.
Because it is choking under its own weight. Initial planning when the city started didn’t forecast its current shape and functionality.
The solution?
Start from scratch by detailed planning and setting up of three capitals where there’s enough resources. A judicial capital somewhere up north near lodwar, an administrative capital near isiolo plains and legislative capital down south eastern coast province.
Nairobi to remain a commercial city.
This is the Marshall plan for transformation of Kenya. Anything else will be the dog chasing after its own tail.
@,yakuzzi.Many have…
@,yakuzzi.Many have suggested that the capital be moved.I have yet to hear anybody say that its a bad idea.Yet we keep crowding and overloading Nairobi. Why?
May be the government should…
May be the government should pay people to move out.Lets use oil revenue for that.
@Yakuzzi, loving your take…
@Yakuzzi, loving your take on this. You have underlined everything wrong with the capital. Nairobi was borne out of post colonialism, hence the infrastructure is not fit for purpose in today’s Nairobi. Top that with ignorant/have no clue leaders…and one is left with the conclusion that Nairobi is indeed doomed.
