President Kenyatta has on Wednesday hosted a team of United States Senators led by James Inhofe of the Armed Service Committee at State House in Nairobi.
Discussions between the President and the US lawmakers revolved around security in the Horn of Africa and the threats posed by Somalia-based terror organization, Al-Shabaab and ISIS.
“Somalia is still very fragile but we continue partnering on matters of security,” President Kenyatta ,who was accompanied by Deputy President William Ruto and Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, told the Senators.
Other US Senators present included; Michael Enzi (Homeland Security Committee), John Boozman and Shelley Mooore Capito, both of the Appropriations Committee.
Also present at the meeting was Tim Walberg of the House Committee on Energy and outgoing American Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec.
The team arrived in Kenya from Uganda on Wednesday before heading to Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia later next week.
President Uhuru further disclosed Kenya’s plans to modernize its military and appealed to the US to support the efforts. He also briefed them on the March 9th handshake between him and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
