Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula has maintained that opposition leader Raila Odinga betrayed the rest of National Super Alliance (Nasa) co-principals when he went to Uhuru Park grounds to take oath as people’s president on January 30th in their absence.
For this reason, Wetang’ula said, the former Prime Minister is on his own now and should not expect any backing from him, Musalia Mudavadi or Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking when he attended a burial ceremony in Tongaren Constituency on Saturday, the Ford Kenya party leader said Odinga took the oath behind their back, when the deal was that they first converge at a Nairobi hotel before jointly proceeding to Uhuru Park.
As if that was not enough, Wetang’ula said the Orange party leader also went ahead to strike a unity pact with President Kenyatta without their knowledge on March 9th.
“Raila decided to go on his way and turned his back on us betraying all of our efforts to stand in solidarity. It’s okay, I and my friend Musalia we will work together in gathering the Luhya people together and consequently form a political unit,” said the visibly distraught Bungoma Senator.
The senator also declared he is opposed to Odinga’s push for amendment of the Constitution to change the county leadership structure. He told Raila not to expect any support from the other Nasa leaders in the push for changes in law, adding that he is now on his own.
“Going for a handshake and coming up with constitution amendment proposals is not enough, you will need the support of others,” said Wetang’ula.
“And when you are not getting it from where you first thought you would, then that is serious,” he told Odinga.
