Former Gov't Chief Pathologist Moses Njue to be Charged with Stealing Body Organs

Dr Moses Njue, the former Chief Government Pathologist is set to be arraigned in court to face charges of stealing body organs.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecution C. M. Mwaniki has ordered for the arrest and prosecution of Njue over the accusations. In a report, Mwaniki says that the doctor stands accused of stealing body parts belonging to Benedict Karau, who passed away on March 2nd, 2015.

He will be charged with three counts of, theft contrary to Section 275 of the penal code, intentional destruction of evidence and illegal removal of body organs contrary to the Anatomy Act.

“In regard to the missing body organ (s) you are directed to arrest Dr Moses Njue and cause him to be charged with the following offences,” read part of the DPP’s report according to Nairobi News.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board is also investigating the matter after Karau’s son Charles Mwongela filed a complaint. Karau, a polygamous man passed on after choking on food, his youngest wife Martha Gakou said, but his family requested for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.

Ms Gakou hired Dr Njue as a private pathologist to represent her during the postmortem at the Consolata Mission Hospital on March 12th, 2015.

The report indicated that he died of heart attack and that his remains had been embalmed on the night it was taken to the morgue. The body also had bruises and injuries on the head and on the hands.

Though he was buried, his family felt dissatisfied with report as it failed to give a clear indication of the cause of his death. His son Mwongela filed for exhumation in August to have fresh postmortem conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor.

The fresh autopsy indicated that his heart, one kidney and other parts were missing. Dr Oduor said it was difficult to establish the cause of death without the heart.

Dr. Njue admitted to taking away the heart for further tests, ‘histology’, but the family said he didn’t seek authority from them. John Gathenya, a mortuary attendant said Njue asked him to get containers to carry the organs.

It is a sad day indeed if the million dollar industry of illegal organs trafficking has reached Kenya. It all begins with harvesting organs from corpses then it escalates to real human beings where Kidneys and other organs are sold for millions from innocent unsuspecting victims. Vulnerable people living in Kosovo, India and China are at a risk of losing their kidneys or livers. You sleep on the street one day and the next you find yourself with a wound and a kidney missing. Moses Njue…Lets never meet.
