Three National Super Alliance (Nasa) affiliated parties have told Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement to either remain in the coalition or leave.
In a joint statement by 18 MPs drawn from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya, the leaders criticised Wiper’s move to write to the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, seeking to have Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga (ODM) removed from Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
Musyoka’s party told the Speaker that a slot in the PSC was reserved for Wiper, and therefore, Ms Wanga should be replaced by Borabu MP Benson Momanyi.
Speaking during a press briefing at Parliament buildings on Tuesday, the group’s spokesperson Godfrey Osotsi accused Wiper “of rocking the coalition boat from within”.
“Wiper should state categorically if it walked out of Nasa without our knowledge. We also urge the Speaker not to act on any letter but instead refer the matter to the relevant structures of Nasa,” the ANC secretary general said.
Osotsi further said that Wiper should be satisfied with the National Assembly and minority whip in the Senate slots allocated to it.
Wajir West MP Ahmed Kolosh said that Wiper acted against the spirit of the alliance by writing to the Speaker.
“Wiper cannot be in Nasa when it is convenient. We want to remind Wiper that 2017 was just days ago while 2022 is not far,” Mr Kolosh said.
“Wiper should withdraw the letter immediately and be satisfied with what it has.”
Uriri MP Mark Nyamita accused Wiper of “causing unnecessary drama within the coalition”.
“The only thing we expect from Wiper is when Kalonzo Musyoka will be sworn in as the people’s deputy president. Nothing else,” Mr Nyamita said.
