Kenyans on social media are trolling comedian Elsa Majimbo over the ongoing violence in South Africa.
In May, the 20-year-old comedian announced she was relocating to South Africa and vowed never to return to Kenya, terming the country unsafe for her to live.
She accused Kenyans of bullying her as well as being toxic and unsupportive, making it hard for her to live peacefully in Nairobi.
“I found happiness outside (of Kenya). I don’t know where I am going and yesterday my sister suggested traveling back to Nairobi to which I declined. It is the worst option possible. I will go back to South Africa where I know I have a home. South Africans supported and defended me from Kenyan bullies. Kenya is not that place (to call home),” she said during an interview in Dubai.
Following the outbreak of ugly protests in South Africa in the wake of former President Jacob Zuma’s jailing, a section of Kenyans online are challenging Majimbo to address the situation in “her country.”
@master_vinnie sarcastically tweeted, “Where is our sister Elsa Majimbo, the South African citizen? Is South Africa safe from there? I believe there is no looting going on right now. I guess the media is lying to us. Lemme tell you in Kenya we are fighting now.”
@abuga_makori said, “A few months ago, I questioned Elsa Majimbo’s attitude to our country, Kenya. She openly said Kenya is not safe. He even said in a serious society, she should face treason. You all abused me just coz I am a patriot. Let her now talk of violence in South Africa. Or she’s young?”
@ValentineMwamburi posed, “So Elsa Majimbo jumped from frying pan into the fire, see what is happening in SA right now. Hope she is safe there.”
There is no safe place in…
There is no safe place in the world. We are mere mortals. No situation is permanent. No one should throw stones from a glass house. Don’t laugh at your neighbor’s plight cause you never know what tomorrow brings.
Rumor has it that she…
Rumor has it that she changed her name to Nsangoma shabalalema to further distance her self from anything Kenyan.This also helps her evade the xenophobia that from time to time raises its ugly head and attackes -Amakwekwe,africans from other countries like ,Kenya.
Comrade Maxiley,
I…
Comrade Maxiley,
I understand her frustrations, but you cannot DIVORCE YOURSELF FROM YOUR PARENTS….meaning ..OUR EMPIRICAL CORDS AND OUR FORESKINS ARE DEEPLY BURIED IN KENYA.
SO THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL WE CAN DENY OUR KENYAN HERITAGE …PERIOD.
She is very ignorant and…
She is very ignorant and less traveled to know anything. Kenya is one of the best places on earth to live!
By the way I wonder what…
By the way I wonder what folks here in Mwakilishi think the solution to the south african crisis is? I think that Ramaphosa is going to have to pardon Zuma. The jailing of Zuma for contempt of court, was a step too far in the wrong direction at this point in time, in my opinion. I know there is going to be a political backlash for pardoning him. But it seems that the political backlash is a lesser evil at this point. The riots on the streets need to cease. So that south africa can focus on the economy and healing intercommunity tensions.
@Kim, there is aprocess for…
@Kim, there is aprocess for pardoning. Ramaphosa cannot just cower and issue pardon for fear of political retribution.The rule of the law has to be applied and adhered to.Otherwise a bad precedent would be set.If Zuma asks for pardon,and appears to be truly contrite,yes in my opinion he should be pardoned.That’s only if it would defuse a potentially explosive situation.My two cents.
@Maxiley. I agree with you…
@Maxiley. I agree with you. The issue is, given his stature as the former head of state. I doubt that South Africa has sufficient capacity within its body politik to Jail the man. Look at what has already happened within this short period of time that he has been in Jail. The question is, what will his supporters continue to do? I think that the legal political establishment should probably have gone after another set of consequences. Eg forfeiture of stolen funds for example.
@Kim, in reference to your…
@Kim, in reference to your last statement,I would say that is what political establishment was doing. Zuma is facing corruption charges.He was supposed to go to court to start answering these charges. He supporters should be uphold the rule of the law. A corrupt official should be jailed,or punished according to the law.I hope they are not proud that Zuma was corrupt.
Maybe the way to enforce law…
Maybe the way to enforce law and order as well as calm in South Africa at this time would be to in effect hammer out an agreement with the dissenting faction of the ANC. To the Zuma Loyalist Ramaphosa could give them RED MEAT by pardoning Zuma. Then in return he should ask the entire ANC for Peace, Stability and Calm on the streets of South Africa.

Why should a criminal former…
Why should a criminal former head of state be given a break!? Zuma should be accountable if his actions just like anyone else! Those rioting and looking should understand that the laws are made to be followed by everyone equally!
Zuma need to serve his time…
Zuma need to serve his time in jail! Those demonstrating are just ignorant of the facts. Zuma is very corrupt and he should be given a longer prison sentence to teach other thieves across Africa a good lesson.
She’s a baby who doesn’t…
She’s a baby who doesn’t know millions of ppl want to be Kenyan. A lot of babies are named kenya Kenyon, Kenyan etc. S Africa is burning now but its temporary. Their economy is bigger but blacks own little land and capital and lack skills and knowledge for work and business. Just pray for SA
Lots of time wasters on…
Lots of time wasters on Twitter in Kenya. This is a 20 year old girl trying to discover herself. Let her be. This is bullying.
Maybe Ramaphosa should issue…
Maybe Ramaphosa should issue a limited pardon for the particular issue of the contempt of court. Thus doing away with the 15 month jail sentence which is the problem at this time. (my 2 cents)
What you are seeing in Zumba…
What you are seeing in Zumba’s corruption case is very similar to the situation in Kenya today. Ignorant South Africans have gone bananas fighting for a thief who got jailed for stealing their country’s resources.
In Kenya, you have the same type of situation with ignorant Kenyans voting a candidate who is sponsored by the greatest known thief in Kenya’s political landscape – the DP Ruto. He has coined stealing as hustling – Ruto publicly acknowledges a hustler is a thief. He wants to become a president of a nation of thieves called the “wheelbarrow generation”! And yes, many people are consuming Ruto’s toxic brew bigly. It I the same situation happening with South Africans and Zuma! And so you can call DP Ruto the younger “Zuma” of Kenya because that is the direction Ruto is taking Kenyans – en-mass! End of the story!
We are a point of reflection I terms of the black man’s understanding of the actual meaning of something generally called, the “morality of a nation”!
Why is it that black folks across the world tend to cerebrate what is morally wrong and evil? Is our way of thinking programmed in that fashion? Why do we, the black people, glorify corruption, looting, killing, and all sorts of evils?
I still got to understand the type of mortar that makes our inner core to always support mostly what is wrong in the society. Stealing is wrong. Right? But why do we cerebrating those who steal from us? Are they not bound by the same rules like the rest of us?
Zuma should be jailed for his actions and his corruption cases must continue to the conclusive end.
