President Kenyatta Begins Three-Day Tour to South Africa

President Kenyatta on Thursday morning left the country for a three-day official tour to South Africa.

A flight carrying the President left Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) moments before noon. He was seen off by Deputy President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.

During the trip, the Head of State is expected to hold discussions on boosting cooperation in trade, security and infrastructure development with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma.

On Thursday afternoon, the two will review the progress in the implementation of agreements signed earlier between the two countries and explore new areas to strengthen ties.

In October 2016, a historic visit to Kenya by President Zuma saw the signing of six agreements and Memoranda of Understanding in various sectors.

On Friday, President Kenyatta will hold talks with Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, who last month succeeded Zuma as leader of ruling African National Congress (ANC) party.

On Saturday, he will attend African National Congress’s party 106th anniversary celebrations before jetting back to the country.
