NASA Says Plans to ‘Swear-in’ Raila Still On

Opposition leader Raila Odinga’s swearing-in as “President” will be held early next year, the people’s assembly national steering committee now says.

In a statement On Thursday, committee members Hamida Kibwana, Koitamet ole Kina, Peter Mathuki, David Ndii (chairman), Oduor Ong’wen, Judy Sijeny and Bramwell Simiyu said plans to install the opposition leader were still on.

“Following the postponement of the launch of the People’s Assembly that was to take place on Jamhuri Day, December 12, the organising committee wishes to announce the resumption of the People’s Assembly process,” read the Statement.

They added that the National People’s Assembly will be organizing several regional consultative forums before the inauguration early next year.

“These preparatory meetings will bring together the leadership of the different regions of the country to deliberate on national governance as it affects the regions, and to distil the region’s agenda for the People’s Assembly.”

The first consultative forum will be held in the Coast region on Sunday, with Nasa principals Raila and Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi are expected to attend.

On Sunday, the coalition announced it had called off the swearing in of Mr Odinga, which had been scheduled for December 12th

“Following internal consultations, the NASA leadership advises the NASA fraternity that the swearing in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as president and deputy president of the republic of Kenya has been postponed,” NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi said in a statement.
