US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec Reacts to NASA's Decision to Cancel Raila's Inauguration

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has reacted to the decision by National Super Alliance (NASA) to call off the swearing in of Raila and Kalonzo Musyoka as President and Deputy President respectively.

In a press briefing read by NASA principal Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday, the opposition outfit announced it had postponed the inauguration to a later date.

“Following extensive internal consultations and engagement with a wide range of national and international interlocutors, the leadership wishes to advice the NASA fraternity and the general public that the swearing in of Rt Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga and His Excellency Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka as President and Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, and the launch of the People’s assembly scheduled for Tuesday 12 December have been postponed to a later date,” NASA’s statement read in part.

“We are aware that this will be a disappointment to the people of Kenya who were eagerly waiting for this occasion. We wish to assure them that our resolve has not changed. Specifically, we wish to reiterate that any national dialogue must have electoral justice on the agenda. We are not interested in an illegitimate dictatorial power,” said Mudavadi.

In a tweet on Monday, Ambassador Godec welcomed the decision, terming it a stride in fostering unity among Kenyans.

“NASA’s decision yesterday is a positive step. We again call for a sustained, open, and transparent national conversation involving all Kenyans to build national unity and address long-standing issues,” Godec tweeted.
