Former Meru Governor Peter Munya Speaks about His 2022 Presidential Ambitions

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya says that his bid for presidency in the 2022 general elections will depend on the Cabinet position President Kenyatta offers him.

“Depending on the nature of the job that the president will give me, I can’t confirm to you whether I will run for the presidency in 2022. I will review that decision when it is clear where I am going to serve,” said Munya.

Munya, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, former Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, and former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma are among individuals who are tipped to join Kenyatta’s Cabinet.

President Kenyatta is set to re-constitute his cabinet in the coming days following his swearing in for second term last Tuesday.

Munya further noted that he will resign as Party of National Unity (PNU) leader if he earns the ministerial post. “There are a lot of talented people who can take over from me within the party but that will again depend on the docket I will be handling,” he said.

The former Council of Governors (COG) chairman temporarily joined National Super Alliance (NASA) after losing the Meru gubernatorial race to Kiraitu Murungi, but abandoned the alliance a few days later and pledged to support President Uhuru’s re-election.

Earlier this week, Munya filed an application before high court in Meru to withdraw his petition challenging the election of Murungi as Meru Governor.

Other individuals who have declared their interests for the presidency in 2022 include Deputy President William Ruto, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka among others.

Sorry to inform Mr. Munya but Mt. Kenya region is solidly behind our next President His Excellence William Ruto. You are at liberty though to have a dream. Dreams are free. We know you are using your dream as a bargaining chip to win a Cabinet post. If you can’t win a governorship in your county what makes you think you can win a presidency seat?

You will be one among many you might as well start campaigning early as it will be a crowded field
