Former Investigative journalist Mohammed Ali, well known as “Moha Jicho Pevu’ is poised to become the next Member of Parliament for Nyali constituency in Mombasa County.
Preliminary results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) show that the independent candidate has opened a commanding margin against his main rival with 22,348 votes.
His main challenger, ODM’s Said Abdallah has 13,673 votes. From the numbers, Abdallah who is Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s Cousin was forced to conceded defeat.
“It was a tight race. We have learned from our mistakes and we shall put a strong fight in future.” Said said.
“I would like to congratulate my opponent Mohammed Ali on winning the seat. I sincerely thank all those who took their time to come out and vote for me yesterday,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Said trounced Ali in the race for Raila-led ODM party ticket in what Ali dismissed as “botched” ODM primaries.
Ali abandoned ODM to face Said as an independent candidate, and it appears like his move has bore fruits.
