Opposition leader Raila Odinga says that they have now dumped the “no reforms, no election calls to adopt “October, no election” slogan following the revelation by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson that the commission cannot guarantee a credible election.
Addressing a rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi on Wednesday, said that there will be no elections and promised to stage “mother of all demonstrations” on October 26th election date countrywide.
“ Chebukati’s statement today confirms that IEBC takes instructions from State house. Today we are changing our call from no reforms, no elections to October, no elections,” said Odinga.
Raila further called for dialogue saying “we must sit down and negotiate” as the current political environment is not conducive for an election to be held.
The National Super Alliance (NASA) leader added the exit of IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe proved that the commission was receiving instructions from State House.
Raila remarks comes after President Uhuru warned to stern action against those planning to disrupt next Thursday’s election.
Addressing a rally in Nanyuki on Wednesday, President Uhuru said the government would not tolerate such crimes, citing attacks met on election officials during a training in Nyanza region this week.
“Whoever will try to stop the elections, by attacking IEBC officials, firm action will be taken against them. We cannot allow a few individuals to destroy our country,” he said.
He continued; “We are telling Raila you have a right to boycott the election but Kenyans have a right to vote,” said President Kenyatta.
“Why do you think you have a right to stop Kenyans from exercising their democratic right?” posed the President.

The question that is burning…
The question that is burning in me is this: Why is lawlessness being tolerated in Kenya in the name of free speech? Raila has been preaching nothing but hate and incitement. He is even shouting from the roof tops what his intentions are, and that is there will be no elections and people should boycott. He goes a step further as has Miguna Miguna to state that this will “be at any cost and with whatever means”. Is there any bigger threat to national security than these declarations, backed up by the violence being paraded in the cities? Someone (apart from Guest1) please enlighten me, perhaps I am missing a point but I am open to correction anytime.

@Sukari, you are right to be concerned. Nowhere in the constitution is blocking an election a right for any person. People condemn police for using brutal force yet brutal force is what Raila is threatening to use everyday in his utterances! They ask Uhuru to ‘dialogue’ with Raila, so the country can hear and be healed, but nobody wants to look at what the law says. One would imagine that the right to boycott voting is equal to the right to vote.

My friends, this crappy constitution we accepted for Kenya in 2010 is full of nonsense and needs to be debunked. We copied the US constitution and did not make sure loopholes were sealed to avoid the nonsense that is going in Kenya today. The US constitution will not subject the citizens to similar inconveniences because all the loose ends in the US constitution have been sealed. I suggest a referendum to draft a new constitution that will work for our people.

As the commander in Chief of the armed forces of the republic of Kenya, I am concerned about the safety and well being of the country. Our Civil liberties and freedoms have been taken hostage by NASA and in particular Raila AMollo Odinga, Kalonzo and NASA leadership. Our Freedoms are under direct assault/attack by the call of this lawless demonstrations. There has been lost of lives and economic losses that are unwarranted.Mr President, You remain the commander in chief and the sentiments from NASA & Raila are a direct attacks to our democracy and no different from terorrism. There is loss of lives. Raila is causing tribal division to our country. We must be at peace during the elections Mr. President. This was appeal at the supreme court. He has refused to honor the ruling by picking and choosing to whatever pleases him and its time he is shut down for good. You have military option to your disposable in defense of the country. The military must be invoked to bring order. Mr. President a state of emergency and Military curfews must be imposed to protect peace and loss of lives. I understand by doing so it would affect the economy and taint your image just little however Mr. Raila and his members are out to destroy our country at any cost. I am sure somehow through the great find technology has ways to reach to where its needed. This is my humble appeal to castrate Raila who in his words does not care for the lost lives. He is fine to camp at the billionaires lavish mansions and lazy to foot any cents for the lost lives of the young men and women that have fought for his aimless course or even cater for medical bills.
