Raila: Jubilee Using “Defectors Fund” to Buy NASA Losers

Opposition chief Raila Odinga claims that the ruling Jubilee party has set aside a “defectors fund” that is using to buy National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders who lost in the August 8th general elections.

Speaking during a media briefing at Okoa Kenya offices on Monday, the former Prime Minister said that the defections have no substantial impact on the opposition coalition, adding that they are not moving with any masses.

Raila called on Kenyans to ignore the defectors, who are only moving to satisfy their own interests. “Our quest for change remains focused on the people and this is a group no one can buy with money. We shall never focus on leaders and a few election losers who are disgruntled and seeking political relevance,” said the NASA leader Raila.

“People seeking individual gain have correctly identified that Jubilee is the place to go. We will not waste time trying to stop them. In fact, we are aware that Jubilee has set up a Defectors’ Fund to finance the buying of leaders and losers and create the impression that there is an exodus from NASA,” he said.

Questioned on whether he would participate in the repeat poll scheduled for October 26th, Raila told journalists that there’s no way he would be part of a pre-determined election. “If I choose not to compete in a pre-rigged electoral process it is my right, no court can compel me,” he said.

The coalition has lost several leaders since the cancelled August 8th election including former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, ex-Funyula MP Paul Otuoma, former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, Yusuf Chanzu, former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar among others.
