NASA Governors Endorse Formation of Raila’s People’s Assemblies

Governors allied to National Super Alliance (NASA) have endorsed the idea by its leader Raila Odinga to form People’s Assemblies.

In a meeting chaired by the former Prime Minister in Nairobi on Thursday, the opposition county bosses agreed to mobilize for the formation of the assemblies in their respective counties.

Raila called on the governors to support, facilitate and help the opposition make the assemblies operational by mobilizing supporters at the grassroots to actively be involved in the activities of the new formations.

“The governors were also briefed on and approved the coalition’s plan to form a special committee to review the Constitution of Kenya 2010,” the statement, signed by Nasa Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya, said.

While announcing the formation of the people’s assembly last Tuesday, opposition leader Raila Odinga said that Nasa would not recognize President Uhuru as validly elected, adding that the assemblies will initiate plans to have a fresh credible election in 90 days.

He also said the assembly will institute review of Constitution to safeguard and strengthen devolution, as well as restore democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

The people’s assembly will comprise of elected leaders including governors and their deputies; senators, MCAs, religious leaders, trade union and civil society, youth and women organizations.

Nasa leaders Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula also attended the meeting with the county heads.
