Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has retained his seat after being declared the winner of Tuesday’s election.
Duale, who was defending his seat on a UDA party ticket, garnered a total of 9,905 votes ahead of his competitors Abdulahi Mohamoud of ODM (5,509 votes) and UPA’s Abdulahi Mohamed (5,529 votes).
Through social media on Thursday, Duale said he recaptured the seat “not because we were the best but we offered — in The Plan — viable remedies for the present challenges in Garissa Township Constituency.”
“I want to, in a very special way, thank the people of Garissa Township who have believed in me for the past three and this fourth election, making our, ‘Ishirini bila Break’ mantra a reality.”
“For our competitors, this was a friendly match. We played clean issue-based and policy-driven politics. We remain friends and residents of Garissa Township. From a clean heart, our team extends an invitation to our opponents to join us in sharing ideas that will make Garissa the apple of the Northern eye. Let our ‘Uninterrupted Twenty’ be remembered as a period of empowerment and development,” he added.
Other notable MPs who have retained their seats include Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), John Waluke (Sirisia), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Naisula Lesuuda (Samburu West), Babu Owino (Embakasi East), and Oscar Sudi (Kapseret).
