An Anti-narcotics police unit in Mombasa on Tuesday nabbed a vehicle branded with Governor Hassan Joho’s campaign portraits during an operation to find seven wanted drug barons in the city.
During the swoop, half a kilo of heroin of unknown value and Sh4.5 million in cash were found in the car. Police said investigation on the seven individuals had commenced.
“We have also seized seven Toyota vehicles. We are yet to establish the value of the drug but it will subjected to a test at our labaratory,” Coast regional police boss Larry Kieng said.
Among those in police custody is Ndechumia Bilali Kimali who was recently released on a sh10 million bond after being charged with two counts of trafficking 7.6 kg of heroin in 2015. He was charged in April after he was deported from Madagascar.
The coast police boss said police have remained alert as they move to end the menace in the coast.
“We will continue dealing with these people and ensure we flush them away. We are not going to relent in this war. We are committed in this fight,” said Mr Kieng.
