Kenya National Assembly Threatens to Disband the Senate

The supremacy battle between the two Houses of Parliament, the National Assembly and Senate has reemerged once again.

In the latest rivalry between the two Houses, the National Assembly has threatened to disband the Senate for what it termed as overstepping its mandate.

The National Assembly says the Senate is out of order by purporting to oversight National Government agencies. Members of the National Assembly accuse their counterparts in the Senate of duplicating what their departmental committees are doing, leaving counties to be looted.

This came after the Senate’s public accounts and investment committee summoned Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed over Ruaraka land scandal involving an illegal payment of Sh1.5 billion.

The Senate summoned Amina only a day after  she appeared before a National Assembly Committee to shed more light on the controversial payment of the land.

This has angered the National Assembly, which now accuses Senate of overstepping its mandate by playing an oversight role on National Government agencies and revisiting matters concluded by National Assembly committees.

Minority Chief Whip in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed said he will be initiating process of scrapping the Senate claiming that Kenyans are getting no value from the House (Senate).

MPs have also urged National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi to use his powers as the chairman of the parliamentary service commission (PSC) to instill order on Senators.

  1. Let them fight and disband…
Let them fight and disband each other. This will be great for the country. I would ask the National Assembly to start by disbanding MCA and Governors, then move on to Senate. Then hopefully electorate would have gotten the message then disband the National Assembly. Then we can start this again.Reduce the counties to 8-12. Divide NRB county to at least 2 counties. Etc. People tasked with the Constitution must have been high on something or highly incompetent.

    • You forgot the need to Scrap…
You forgot the need to Scrap the White Elepahant post of Women Rep. Hii mambo ya Wangu-wa-Makeri iishie.

      • They are in the national…
They are in the national Assembly and these women have just been an embarrassment to the young women and girls. Women, girls and baby girls being raped all over the place and instead of making sure laws are upheld, raped kits made available and followed up they are more interested in being second and third wives. Ati polygamy. Ask Wamuchoba, a woman I thought stood head and shoulders above all others the first thing she asked for when her behind hit the parliament…even before she could warm the parliament chair was a raise! Shameful, very shameful.

    • They do NOT want to LEARN…
They do NOT want to LEARN. And this began with Exam Cheating from Primary Schools – High Schools – Colleges – Universities. So We are Dealing with Half-Baked leaders. And some of them NOT Baked at all.

Haha! you’ve cracked my ribs there with “some not baked at all”. We need to crank up the heat in the oven.

  2. Senate seems to be more…
Senate seems to be more disciplined than parliament. Parliament is like a nursery school. Even a nursery school is much better than them.
