Two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the killing of 28-year-old Nairobi-based businessman Kevin Omwenga.
Omwenga, a car dealer, was shot in his house at Galana Suites apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi on Friday in an alleged business deal gone sour.
On Saturday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) arrested two suspects identified as Robert Bodo and Chris Obure in Kilimani. Police recovered a mini Ceska firearm believed to have been used in the fatal shooting.
“The firearm, which has been kept as an exhibit, will be subjected to ballistic analysis as further investigations ensue to unravel the motive of the shooting,” the DCI said.
The deceased’s brother Wycliff Omwenga told police that he was in the kitchen preparing supper when he heard a gunshot emanating from the bedroom.
He rushed there where he saw Bodo leaving in a hurry and found his brother lying on his back with blood oozing from his chest when he entered the bedroom. Wycliff rushed him to Nairobi Women’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following his arrest, Bodo led detectives to Senteu Plaza in Kilimani where the gun and 13 rounds of ammunition were found.
“It was found kept in a safe in an office which was alleged to belong to one Chris Obure who is also suspected to be the owner of the firearm,” police said in a report.
The body of the deceased was moved to Montezuma mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
