A sheep in South Sudan has been sentenced to three years in prison after it was found guilty of killing a 45-year-old woman earlier this month, according to multiple reports.
The ram was arrested and placed under police custody after he attacked and injured the ribs of the victim identified as Adhieu Chaping, who died as a result of the injuries.
“The ram attacked by hitting her ribs and the old woman died immediately. Our role as police is to provide safety and separate fights. The ram was apprehended and currently under custody at a Police Station,” Police Chief Major Elijah Mabor said as reported by Local21news.
The animal will spend three years at a military camp as punishment after he was found guilty of murder. Asked why they could not jail the sheep’s owner, the police chief said they found the owner innocent of the crime, and the animal was fully responsible for the crime.
“The owner is innocent and the ram is the one who perpetrated the crime so it deserves to be arrested then later on the case shall be forwarded to customary court where the case can be handled amicably,” the officer added.
The court, however, ordered the sheep’s owner Duony Manyang Dhal to give five cows to the victim’s family as compensation.

At least justice was served! That is their law, and we have to respect it. That is the law of land in South Sudan and it was applied accordingly. It may look odd to us in Kenya since we have different justice but it doesn’t mean ours is better than theirs. South Sudanese probably also see United States justice System as odd for allowing kids as young as 18 years to buy guns that end up killing kids

@Maxiley, hahaha. The goat must have had a lawyer and a good one at best otherwise how do you explain serving only three years when you’ve willfully killed a human being?

FYI this was described as a ram(male sheep). As a connoisseur of goat, there is a difference in taste and texture. As far as representation, I have some questions – does the ram get conjugal rights? How old is he and is this really a life sentence? What meals will he be allowed and will he be allowed to roam in a pasture?

I suspect the ram will hang himself sooner or later. The authorities will be forced to skin, gut and quarter him for disposal. They will then try to cremate the remains on an open fire. Only bones and skin will remain after the attempt.
