Kenyans on social media expressed their shock after learning the amount of tuition fee a private Nairobi school charges per term.
This came after one online user shared the fee structure of Peponi House Preparatory School on social media.
The fee structure dated July 1st, 2019 was sent to parents by the institution’s headmaster in the form of a letter and stated the amount to be paid for the academic year 2019/2020.
The letter listed Sh632,285 as the amount to be paid as tuition fees, Sh21,000 for sports club and Sh11,000 for the hiring of musical instruments. The document did not state whether the amount was for day scholars or boarders.
“I am happy to say that this is a zero percent increase in fees for this year,” the principal Robert Blake concludes in the letter.

“When the 11K for hiring instruments is way others pay for a whole year….. The haves n have not’s is real,” Eve Eva commented.
“Hire a musical instrument is our termly school fees. Kweli hii dunia tuliescort wengine. uhai is importanter,” Wakahiu Wairimu noted.
“I pay 1,000 termly for sports and still complain. I surrender. Lanes tu,” Min Jabali stated.
“600k per month and someone affords to send more than 2 kids there? Kenya should not be categorized as a Third World country. We should be mentioned in the leagues of USA, China, Russia,” Waithira Wagachira said.

No wonder Kenyans are looting too much from the government to take their children to such schools. Is it a good investment? The only difference between somebody who went to such a school and rural Meru or Kisii is the accent. They will meet in the Universities and study together or at work place and work together.

I am yet to hear of a Kenyan who went to Peponi and is now lifting Kenyans out of poverty with great leadership skills, no graft trail and creator or inventor.Spending big money does not equate to big investment in future. Neither does spending little to no money in Kenya. Key here is to balance and understanding what school best suits your child. To best understand your child you have to spend time with them, not handing them over to the maid, teachers etc to raise them for you. Hurling them to the best of the best( a thought which only plays in your head) will not equate to success.

I can pull a few fee structure in my radius including Sidwell where Obama’s kid went and compare . Much a do nothing . Let those who want to afford for their kids private school do it !
