Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has announced plans for a comprehensive coalition aimed at consolidating political figures unaffiliated with either the Orange Democratic Movement or the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The announcement came during his address at the Jesus Teaching Ministry in Embakasi East on Sunday, where he outlined the vision for a movement under the leadership of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. During his church address, Kioni expressed confidence in Musyoka’s leadership capabilities, highlighting his previous contributions to the nation. The coalition seeks to incorporate prominent political figures, including former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
Kioni emphasizes the coalition’s primary objective of mounting a decisive challenge to President William Ruto’s administration, stressing the importance of achieving this goal through a unified and concentrated effort. In addressing concerns about Matiang’i’s pending case in court, Kioni draws attention to President Ruto’s case at the International Criminal Court. He suggests that pending legal matters should not impede political participation.
The emergence of this coalition coincides with evident fractures within the Azimio coalition, particularly following ODM leader Raila Odinga’s recent rapprochement with President Ruto’s administration. DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has also emerged as another powerful voice in the coalition formation. In a statement on November 18, Wamalwa revealed the coalition’s efforts to attract various political figures, including the surprising potential inclusion of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Wamalwa has also positioned himself as a prospective presidential candidate within this emerging alliance. Meanwhile, speaking on Sunday at Holy Trinity Parish in Saboti Constituency, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula called for unity and mutual respect among Kenya’s leadership. While acknowledging challenges in health and education sectors, Wetang’ula emphasizes the need to recognize positive developments during President Ruto’s two-year tenure. Wetang’ula lauds the government’s agricultural initiatives, including a World Bank partnership to revitalize the coffee sector through the Cherry Fund.
