Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, spouse of Kenya’s former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, orchestrated a significant mass wedding ceremony for 84 police officers at St. Paul’s University in Limuru on Saturday.
This event marked the second annual mass wedding organized by the Dorcas Rigathi Foundation (DRF). The ceremony brought together prominent religious leaders, with Bishop Moffat Kilioba of the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) and Bishop Joseph Maisha of Ushindi Baptist Church officiating. Bishop Pius Muiru of Maximum Miracle Centre delivered the sermon, while various law enforcement chaplains joined in blessing the couples as they exchanged their vows.
Pastor Dorcas shared her enthusiasm for the occasion, emphasizing its role in formalizing relationships and fostering familial stability among law enforcement personnel. Drawing from scripture, she cited Ecclesiastes 4:12 to underscore the strength found in marital unity: “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
The event exemplifies the broader mission of the Dorcas Rigathi Foundation, which advocates for a ‘Digified Future’ while supporting vulnerable populations across Kenya. The foundation’s work extends beyond marriage ceremonies to address the needs of various groups, including the boy child, widows, orphans, and persons with disabilities. These mass weddings serve a dual purpose of providing legal recognition for existing relationships while reinforcing the social fabric through the establishment of stable family units.
Pastor Dorcas expresses optimism about continuing this tradition in the coming years, viewing it as an essential component of community building and social development.
