Suspect Hashim

Detectives investigating the discovery of a severely mutilated body found dumped at Langata cemetery have made a significant breakthrough that has shed light on the activities of Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the primary suspect in the tragic murders of a mother, her daughter, and her 12-year-old niece.

On October 31, 2024, investigators found boiled human remains outside the cemetery, leading to a complex investigation that has now connected multiple cases. Through meticulous detective work centered on evidence from the crime scene, investigators traced the victim’s movements to a city supermarket. CCTV footage from October 29 captured the woman, believed to be Deka Abdinoor Gorone, who had been reported missing at California police station five days earlier. Forensic analysis is currently underway to confirm the victim’s identity. Surveillance footage reveal that following her shopping trip, the woman proceeded to a Lavington apartment complex, where cameras recorded her entering the premises with Hashim Dagane.

After spending time together, Dagane was later seen departing the apartment on October 31, carrying two bags that investigators suspect contained the victim’s remains. These bags were subsequently recovered at Langata Cemetery. Investigators have discovered that the apartment owner, upon learning of the incident, attempted to conceal evidence by repainting the rooms before fleeing. Authorities are now actively pursuing this individual, who faces potential criminal charges. The case has prompted public concern about targeted violence against women, though authorities maintain that murder investigations are pursued with equal vigour regardless of gender.

On Monday, November 4, Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi ordered Dagane’s detention at Ruaraka Police Station until December 2, 2024, granting investigators additional time to complete their probe. The suspect’s detention was deemed necessary due to flight risk concerns evidenced by his previous attempts to evade capture. Dagane’s arrest in Eastleigh, Nairobi, followed weeks of evasion during which he attempted to conceal his identity by shaving his beard and using multiple phone numbers. His surrender came when he realized law enforcement had surrounded his location.

The investigation has revealed that Dagane, a former Ethiopian regional police officer, had been working as a school driver in Eastleigh after relocating to Kenya using fraudulent documentation, including a false Kenyan identification card. The suspect is also wanted for questioning regarding the murders of Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her young niece Nusayba Abdi Mohammed from the Eastleigh area.
