The 2024 World Travel Awards, held in Dubai, celebrated excellence in Africa’s travel and tourism industry with Kenya emerging as a prominent winner across multiple categories.

The prestigious event showcased the continent’s finest offerings, recognizing outstanding achievements in hospitality, aviation, and destination management. Among the notable winners, Billionaire Resort & Retreat in Malindi, Kenya, claimed the title of Africa’s Leading Boutique Resort. Owned by former Formula One luminary Flavio Briatore, this exclusive establishment has garnered a reputation as a preferred destination for discerning global elites. The resort’s allure stems from its luxurious amenities, including private beach gazebos attended by personal butlers, and villas that harmoniously blend traditional elements with innovative design.

Priced at approximately €300 per night, these accommodations utilize local materials to create a sophisticated ambience. Guests can also indulge in the resort’s restaurant, swimming pool, spa facilities, and excursions aboard the Kalifa boat. Kenya’s aviation sector received significant recognition, with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) being named Africa’s Leading Airport. Kenya Airways dominated several categories, securing titles such as Africa’s Leading Airline, Africa’s Leading Airline-Business Class, and Africa’s Leading Airline Brand. The capital city, Nairobi, further enhanced Kenya’s reputation by being crowned Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination.

In the hospitality sector, the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel at JKIA was distinguished as Africa’s Leading Airport Hotel, while the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club received the honour of Africa’s Leading Hotel. While Kenya celebrated numerous victories, Tanzania secured the title of Africa’s Leading Destination. The World Travel Awards serve not only as a platform for celebration but also as a forum for industry leaders to exchange ideas, explore collaborations, and discuss emerging trends in travel and tourism.

Kenya’s varied attractions encompassing pristine beaches, wildlife reserves, and rich cultural heritage, continue to captivate visitors from across the globe. Ongoing investments in infrastructure and hospitality services position Kenya favourably to maintain its status as a premier African destination. Many award recipients, including the Billionaire Resort, have implemented eco-friendly practices and cutting-edge designs that enhance guest experiences while minimizing environmental impact.
