Wajir MCA's Mutilated Remains Found in Lake Yahud
Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Della Anole Ward, Yussuf Hussein Ahmed

The body of the missing Wajir County Member of County Assembly(MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed was today found in the Lake Yahud area of the county.

The Ahmed Della Anole Ward MCA had been missing for over a month before his body was found in the Lake Yahud area. The circumstances surrounding his abduction and murder remain shrouded in mystery, with police yet to provide substantial information about the ongoing investigation. Family members have positively identified Ahmed’s body at a local mortuary, despite its severely compromised condition resulting from apparent torture, beating, and burning. Eyewitness accounts report disturbing details such as the removal of the victim’s eyes. This brutal act has deeply affected the community, prompting an outpouring of grief and anger on social media platforms.

The disappearance of Ahmed, last seen on September 13, had been a focal point for his family and supporters who tirelessly sought answers and justice. The gravity of the situation prompted intervention from the High Court, which ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Director of Criminal Investigations to ensure the safety of a key witness and provide a comprehensive report on the investigation’s progress by October 7. During court proceedings, Senior Superintendent of Police Justus Imaana revealed significant challenges facing the investigation.

Efforts to secure crucial surveillance footage from the area where Ahmed was last seen have been largely unsuccessful, with only two relevant CCTV recordings obtained thus far. Requests for additional footage from other locations along the suspected abduction route have yielded no results. Compounding these difficulties, a request to the Internet Crime Complaint Centre was denied, further impeding the investigation’s progress. The complexity of the case was evident in Imaana’s statements to the court where he emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and refrained from speculating on potential timelines for its resolution.

This lack of clarity has fueled frustration among Ahmed’s legal representatives and the local community, with some expressing scepticism about the efficacy of the ongoing inquiry. Ahmed’s legal team, led by Danstan Omari and supported by Hosea Manwa from the Law Society of Kenya, has vocalized their dissatisfaction with the pace of evidence gathering by law enforcement. They have emphasized the urgent need to identify and apprehend those responsible for Ahmed’s death.
