Charlene Ruto has taken to social media platform X to address and refute claims of her alleged appointment as chairperson of the National Mining Corporation.
The rumours stem from a circulating gazette notice on social media platforms which Charlene firmly dismisses as false. In her statement, Charlene emphasizes the need to combat the spread of misinformation, asserting that such an appointment would be inconsistent with her father’s leadership principles. She highlights President Ruto’s commitment to providing equal, fair, and transparent leadership opportunities to Kenyan citizens.
Charlene also notes that if she were to receive an appointment, it would more likely be in sectors aligned with her interests such as youth affairs or agriculture, rather than mining. Further debunking the fraudulent notice, Charlene points out a discrepancy in the spelling of her name. The fake document used “Chelangat,” whereas her actual name is “Chelagat.” The Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs has promptly intervened to clarify the situation.
They confirm that the circulating gazette notice is indeed fake and have provided details of the genuine appointment. According to the ministry, President William Ruto had appointed Joseph Kipchumba Lagat as the Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation for a three-year term, effective October 4, 2024. Addressing her involvement in other organizations, Charlene discussed her roles in The Young People’s Network International and SMACHS Foundation.
She emphasizes that these positions were self-created rather than appointed. Charlene urges Kenyans to refrain from supporting propaganda and spreading misinformation that could mislead the public. The fake appointment notice had initially sparked outrage among some Kenyan citizens, with social media platforms buzzing with various opinions and reactions.
