Former Senator Millicent Omanga

Millicent Omanga is in a favourable position to get a government job after being selected as one of the candidates for the position of member of the Commission of Administrative Justice (CAJ), also known as the Ombudsman.

The Chairperson of the Selection Panel announced that Omanga is among 42 applicants vying for the position, while an additional 10 candidates are under consideration for the role of CAJ Chairperson. Omanga faces competition from several notable figures, including former chair of the ODM National Elections Board Judith Nayiai Pareno, and Major (Rtd) John Kamunya Karanja. The selection process will continue with interviews scheduled for October 17 at Harambee House, where candidates are expected to arrive well in advance of their designated interview times.

The CAJ, established under constitutional and legislative provisions, holds significant authority in investigating various complaints within the public sector. These include issues such as administrative delays, abuse of power, unfair treatment, and improper conduct. To ensure transparency and public participation, citizens are encouraged to provide relevant information about the shortlisted candidates through sworn affidavits submitted to the selection panel. Omanga’s political career has been marked by both setbacks and opportunities.

Despite unsuccessful bids for the Nairobi Woman Representative position, she served as a nominated Senator for the Jubilee Party until 2022. More recently, President William Ruto nominated her for a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) position in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. However, this appointment was subsequently put on hold due to economic considerations. The ongoing recruitment process extends beyond the CAJ, with other state organizations such as the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, and the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) also seeking new members.

Another prominent political figure Racheal Shebesh has been shortlisted for a position within the NGEC and is scheduled to face the selection panel alongside other candidates. The selection process for these positions is thorough, requiring candidates to submit documents including identification, academic credentials, and various clearances from relevant government bodies. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the integrity and suitability of potential appointees.
