Kenya Airways (KQ) has received nominations in five prestigious categories at this year’s World Travel Awards (WTA) for the African region.
These nominations span across various aspects of airline service, including Africa’s Leading Airline, Africa’s Leading Airline in Business and Economy Class, Africa’s Leading Airline Brand, and Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine for Msafiri. The voting period for these awards is set to conclude on September 8, 2024. The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, have long been regarded as the pinnacle of excellence in the travel and tourism industry. The awards process unfolds through a series of regional gala ceremonies held across the globe, recognizing and celebrating outstanding achievements in various sectors of the industry.
Winners from these regional events advance to the Grand Final, where the recipients of the esteemed World categories are revealed. The African awards ceremony follows the conclusion of similar events for other regions, including Europe, the Caribbean, Central America, the Middle East, North America, South America, Asia, and Oceania. Notably, the WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony is slated to take place in the Philippines in September, marking the first time the country has hosted such an event. The WTA Grand Tour 2024 also includes ceremonies in Berlin, Dubai, Saint Vincent & The Grenadines, and Diani Beach in Kenya. Kenya Airways’ nominations come at a time of significant financial improvement for the airline.
After a decade of financial challenges, KQ has returned to profitability, reporting a net profit of Sh513 million. This turnaround is attributed to the airline’s strategic plan, Project Kifaru, which focuses on customer satisfaction, operational excellence, financial discipline, innovation, and sustainability. The first half of 2024 saw KQ’s total income rise by 22% year-over-year to Sh91.49 billion, while operating costs decreased by 22% to Sh90.20 billion, resulting in a 30% increase in operating profit to Sh1.30 billion. The WTA gala ceremonies are widely recognized as premier networking events in the travel industry, attracting government officials, industry leaders, and international media.
Winners of these regional ceremonies will progress to the Grand Final scheduled to take place in Madeira, Portugal, later in the year. Kenya Airways has consistently demonstrated its commitment to excellence in the aviation industry, earning recognition for its efforts in customer service, operational efficiency, and innovation.
Comrades,
Kenya can not beat…
Comrades,
Kenya can not beat Ethiopia….period.
Not unless Ruto will bribe his way as he is trying with Raila .
Ethiopian Airlines operates…
Ethiopian Airlines operates with the same model as Middle Eastern airlines, meaning they have a monopoly over air travel in their respective countries sanctioned by the state. KQ operates under a capitalist market; they must pay fees to KAA, which eats mightily into their income. Ethiopians don’t have to worry about that and thus their expansion. We shouldn’t be concerned with Ethiopia; they are way ahead; what might shut KQ would be RwandAir with their new partnership with Qatar. Both Ethiopia and Rwanda are building new airports, Ruto is selling our… Leadership!
Atleast the food they serve…
