Juja MP George Koimburi has voiced concerns over alleged threats he claims to be facing due to his opposition to the recently shelved Finance Bill, 2024.

Speaking at Nyacaba Secondary School, Koimburi accused unnamed fellow politicians from Kiambu of attempting to intimidate him. The MP further revealed that his political stance has led to his marginalization within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition. Koimburi asserts that his isolation within Kenya Kwanza is a direct result of his efforts to expose alleged corrupt practices surrounding the passage of the controversial legislation.

“Since I voted against the finance bill, I have been receiving threats from leaders, particularly those elected alongside me in Kiambu. However, I will not be intimidated. I will continue to speak the truth and uncover corrupt dealings in government. Do your worst, but I will continue to represent my constituents in Juja.” he said.

Koimburi and his counterpart from Githunguri Gathoni Wamuchomba were the only legislators from Kiambu who opposed the bill. The MP has also expressed concerns about being followed by unknown individuals, suggesting a heightened level of perceived threat. In a bold move, Koimburi has called on President William Ruto to remove Kimani Ichung’wah from his position as National Assembly Majority Leader. The Juja MP contends that both Ichung’wah and Majority Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro have failed to effectively serve the President and his Cabinet.

These allegations come in the wake of Koimburi’s claim that each MP was offered 2 million Kenyan shillings to vote in favour of the bill. He asserted that the money was being transported in sacks, with the promise of payment upon a favourable vote. However, Koimburi maintains that he refused to accept the alleged bribe, citing his fundamental obligation to his constituents.

“I refused to betray the trust of those who elected me. That’s why I voted against the bill, which I believe will be detrimental to Kenyans,” he explained.
