A driver violently assaulted a traffic police officer on Sunday morning along Kamiti Road in Nairobi after being caught making an illegal U-turn.
The shocking altercation, captured on video by onlookers, has provoked widespread outrage and prompted an intensive police manhunt for the assailant. The incident began around 8 am at Mirema junction when Corporal Jacob Ogendo approached a saloon car that had become stuck in a ditch after the driver attempted to flee upon being spotted making the illegal manoeuvre. Ogendo assisted the driver and his passenger in freeing the vehicle, then instructed the driver to proceed to the nearby Kasarani police station while riding in the passenger seat himself.
However, the situation rapidly escalated after they had driven a short distance. In a sudden and violent outburst, the driver pulled the handbrake and allegedly produced a sword from under his seat, causing Corporal Ogendo to fear for his life and jump from the moving vehicle. Despite sustaining injuries in the escape, Ogendo was unable to evade the enraged driver who continued his brutal assault in full view of shocked bystanders. The assailant managed to flee the scene, absconding with the police communication device from the car and leaving his accomplice behind to be arrested.
Authorities have mobilized multiple teams in an extensive effort to track down and apprehend the suspect. Corporal Ogendo was first treated at a nearby private hospital before being transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for additional care. Nairobi Police Chief Adamson Bungei has strongly condemned the attack and vows to bring the perpetrator to justice, stating that he would face serious charges once captured.
A fully trained police…
A fully trained police officer being assaulted by a lone teenager? Are these the same police officers that Kenya is preparing to send to gang ravaged Haiti?
Obviously not.That’s why he…
Obviously not. That’s why he was left from the Haiti”squad”
The police should be given…
The police should be given pistols to protect themselves in the event of a situation like this.
Wah! huyo kijana alinyorosha…
Wah! huyo kijana alinyorosha afande hivyo?
Well it pays for police…
Well it pays for police officers to work in pairs. Assaulting a police officer is a serious offense. In fact a felony.Iam glad its not a common occurrence otherwise we would have to arm our police officers with .40caliber semiautomatic pistols. We do not need these weapons in the hands of trigger happy police men and women.
Btw what happened to that case where military men raided a police station and beat the hell out of police officers in revenge for what the police men had done to a military officer…The army men took the law into their hands. Why do we permit such lawlessness to prevail?
Cops have no guns nor cop…
Cops have no guns nor cop cars? Preposterous!!! This young criminal should be in the morgue!!!
The police man was 55…
The police man was 55,elderly, fat and unfit. He should not have been doing an arrest of a young culprit alone. That was reckless but it doesn’t justify the assault.
