Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, along with members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), savoured Kenyan cuisine including Ugali during their recent visit to the United Kingdom.
Their stay extended beyond culinary delights to encompass intellectual engagement and discussions on the future of the African continent. At the heart of their culinary adventures was the Kenyan Kitchen eatery, where the ODM team relished the familiar taste of Ugali, a staple in Kenyan cuisine. Senator Edwin Sifuna’s playful Instagram post captures the excitement of finding this beloved dish in London, prepared by a fellow Luhya hailing from the Funyula region of Busia County. The delegation graciously posed for photographs with enthusiastic patrons as they shared their appreciation for the authentic flavours that bridged the gap between their homeland and the UK.
Raila Odinga and the delegation toured the prestigious Rhodes House at Oxford University, an iconic institution renowned for its academic excellence. Accompanied by Senator Edwin Sifuna and MP Jared Okello, Raila engaged with Kenyan postgraduate students studying at Oxford, sharing insights and fostering intellectual discourse. This visit was facilitated by the Oxford Africa Society which recognizes the importance of African voices in shaping global dialogue.
At the annual event held at Rhodes House, Raila delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “Forging Africa’s Future: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal.” Drawing upon his extensive experience in public service and advocacy, the Azimio leader addressing critical themes such as political stability, economic growth, equity, democracy, and social cohesion. Raila highlighted stories of resilience and examples of renewal from across the continent, emphasizing the collective efforts required to shape Africa’s destiny.
Raila’s vision for the African Union (AU) also took centre stage during his visit to the UK. On May 24, 2024, Raila shared his aspirations for a better Africa with Ambassadors Maarten Brouwer of the Netherlands and Wael Nasreldin of Egypt. Raila articulated his bid for the AU Commission chairmanship, emphasizing the importance of African unity, cooperation, and progress.
In summery-ODM’s,top brass…
In summery-ODM’s,top brass went to UK and were treated to a sumptuous dish of Ogali na Obambla… so what?I would probably raise my eye brows if I read that they were treat to a Almas caviar…and washed it down with 4 bottles of Dom Perignon…
Anyway, note ODM’s hypocrisy . They castigate Dr Ruto for extravagant foreign trips, and yet they are not that far behind in spending membership funds…public funds.
What they did could have easily and cheaply been accompished by modern communication technology…I guess old habits are hard to rid of.
Is this supposed to be news?…
Is this supposed to be news? Eating Ugali, going to a Kenyan restaurant is so not new, why not try other cuisines while on workcation
