The tumultuous relationship between Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi and Aldai Member of Parliament Maryanne Kitany took centre stage during a parliamentary committee hearing on the proposed dismissal of Linturi.

Members of the Select Committee are embroiled in a debate over the necessity of delving into the intricacies of their past romantic entanglement. Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has vehemently advocated for the committee to extend an invitation to Kitany, asserting the indispensability of hearing her perspective, especially in her absence to defend herself. The committee’s chairperson Naomi Waqo will ultimately decide whether to summon Kitany at a later juncture. Despite the delicate nature of broaching personal affairs, Waqo acknowledges the need to address the issue.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, the instigator of the motion for Linturi’s dismissal, has already presented his case and the committee deems it imperative for Linturi to have the opportunity to dispute. Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara has expressed regret that the committee finds itself grappling with matters introduced by the motion’s mover. However, given that the court cases were raised by Wamboka, Linturi must be afforded the chance to offer his version of events. Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza concurs by highlighting the need for Linturi to respond to the claims levelled against him.

During his submissions, Wamboka criticised Linturi for entangling Kitany in the impeachment saga, characterizing Linturi’s responses as the “love letters” of an ignored lover. Wamboka further advised Linturi saying “Ukiachwa achika,”

In a related legal matter, a magistrate court had previously ruled that Linturi and Kitany were not legally married under Kenyan law as customary marriages must be registered under the Marriage Act of 2014. Kitany had claimed that they were married in 2016 through Nandi and Meru customary practices with Linturi paying a dowry of Sh 100,000 and other gifts for her hand in marriage.

  1. These impeachment KANGAROO…
These impeachment KANGAROO courts should be scrapped from Kenyan laws.Kenyans will continue loosing billions to compensate victims of these bogus/useless “courts”.As of now,a former governor is demanding shs 20b. compensation after acquittal by a court of law.MCAs,senators and another court had impeached him on the same charges after being ordered by Uhuru.I wonder why and how YES katiba voters allowed the so-called senators or MPs or MCAs to deliberate on matters pending in courts.
