Police Investigate Teen's Suspicious Death Following Stepfather's Disciplinary Actions
Faith Ngina

18-year-old Faith Ngina, a recent graduate of Mahiga Girls High School, was found dead in her parents’ home in Mahiga Location, Nyeri, Kenya on Thursday, April 18th.

The circumstances surrounding her death have cast a shadow of suspicion, prompting a police investigation. According to reports, Faith’s death followed a tense altercation with her stepfather the night before. Allegations of a romantic relationship involving Faith had reportedly fueled the argument. An autopsy is currently underway to determine the cause of death with toxicology results pending to rule out any potential substance abuse.

Faith’s mother, Christine Mukavi, discloses past confrontations where Faith admitted to drug use, allegedly influenced by a boyfriend. Christine links this behaviour to a recent decline in Faith’s behaviour, marked by erratic actions and episodes of running away from home. The tragic night unfolded after Faith had been missing for a day. Last seen by her mother on Tuesday evening, Faith was entrusted with boiling water for her siblings. Upon Christine’s return, she found the children alone, claiming Faith had gone to collect firewood.

“I had last seen her on Tuesday (April 16th) evening when I asked her to boil water for her two young siblings and bathe them,” says Ms Mukavi.

This sparked a domestic dispute upon Faith’s return, culminating in a physical confrontation with her stepfather. The following morning, Faith was discovered unresponsive by her stepfather. He was subsequently apprehended as a suspect in her death. A court hearing last Friday authorized his detainment for 14 days to allow for further investigation. Faith, a promising student who achieved a B (plain) in her national exams, was slated to begin university studies in September, potentially pursuing a career in the medical field.

“What angered my husband more was that he felt that there was something that our daughter was hiding from him but would not speak up,” says Ms Mukavi.
