The government has urged Kenyans to avoid speculation regarding a deadly Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crash that happened on Thursday afternoon in Cheptulel, West Pokot.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura assures that an official statement is forthcoming. The helicopter, carrying several KDF officials, departed from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School following a security meeting with top leaders to address the ongoing banditry issues in the region. Unconfirmed reports suggest the presence of Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla on board. News outlets have shared images depicting the wreckage engulfed in flames, concentrated around the engine, near the Sintar area. The crash site has been restricted as KDF and other authorities investigate.
This incident has tragically claimed the lives of five individuals with reports suggesting senior military officials and potentially eight Ministry of Defence personnel among the deceased. While initial reports indicated three survivors, the current information suggests only one – believed to be a photographer – made it out alive. Eyewitnesses reported the helicopter catching fire immediately upon impact. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The Ministry of Defence confirms an official statement will be released to address the public. This tragedy occurs as President William Ruto has intensified efforts to find a lasting solution to the region’s persistent banditry problem. The KDF officials on board were reportedly conducting a survey in preparation for the deployment of additional troops to combat cattle rustling.

Speculations/theories etc…
Speculations/theories etc nonsense as all Luos die in plane crash.Does it mean Ogolla was permanent in this world?
Is about time to launch…
Is about time to launch investigations as to why there have been constant death in the military service as a result of helicopter fall out. Things like pilot training, genuine hardware and management protocols should be intensively stressed on to the core.
Ingefa kuweko na uhunguzi wa ajali nyinge za viifo vya wanajeshi wa kenya kutokana kwa helikopta – je ni mafunzo duni kwa piloti, vifaa duni au wazimamizi bwege.
There’s nothing impossible in Kenya until all doubts are eliminated out.
Even here in the US,…
Even here in the US, military helicopters have notoriously been prone to accidents. Maybe it’s just the mechanics of a helicopter flight, that has never been truly understood.
Mechanics issues will …
Mechanics issues will definitely fall under management protocols which need detailed scrutiny of history of following such as Maintenance, Hardware parts, Pilot records and the command of using the cop. On the latest there several eye witness on the ground have confirmed that the cop had a disturbing sound which was not normal like the 2nd one which was around it during landing and flighting to different destinations with the operation area. Other vacuum question is why and where were his junior officer taking charge such as the region commanding officer, Army commanders, deputy-CDF? All this factors should be in the investigation report?
