Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has levelled serious allegations against the Kenya Kwanza coalition accusing them of attempting to undermine the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report.
Kalonzo voiced his concerns about Kenya Kwanza’s motives during his visit to the coastal region accompanied by Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa and Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla. According to Kalonzo, Ruto intends to manipulate the selection process for new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, thereby granting the President an unfair advantage in the upcoming 2027 elections. He claims that the recent court petition challenging the Nadco report was funded by Kenya Kwanza.
He believes that the coalition is determined to exert full control over the appointment of IEBC commissioners. However, Kalonzo emphasizes that the Azimio leadership would vehemently oppose such a move, urging Raila Odinga and William Ruto to intervene and provide guidance on the Nadco report’s implementation. Kalonzo warns that Kenyans might take to the streets again if the Nadco report is not implemented, reminiscent of the recent protests that resulted in fatalities.
He condemns the government’s alleged sale of counterfeit fertilizer to farmers, accusing them of deceiving the people. Additionally, Kalonzo criticizes the government for unfairly favouring a few media houses by withdrawing direct advertisements, which he deemed detrimental to the entire nation. Eugene Wamalwa echoes similar sentiments, denouncing the petition against the Nadco report as state-backed litigation. He reveals that he was among those who refused to endorse the report at Bomas due to its failure to address crucial issues like the high cost of living.
Consequently, Wamalwa claims the government continued to raise taxes even after the completion of talks at Bomas. He further asserts that Kenya has transformed into a nation plagued by deception with the government disseminating counterfeit goods. Last week, the Wiper leader reiterated his determination to end President William Ruto’s term in 2027. He believes that this is the only viable solution to alleviate the high cost of living that Kenyans are grappling with. Musyoka has highlighted the worsening of this issue due to the implementation of various taxes by the Kenya Kwanza government, including the recently introduced housing levy which came into effect on March 19.
