Deadly Love Triangle: Kitengela Man Burnt to Death in Bungalow Fire

A puzzling case of self-immolation in Kitengela, Kajiado County, has taken a surprising turn as detectives investigate the possibility of a love triangle.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning when 48-year-old Vincent Opon Kisangi set fire to a bungalow in Chuna Estate. Before the tragedy, Kisangi dismissed the house helper Ann Atieno from the premises. Atieno later revealed the couple had left unexpectedly on Monday. In the early hours of Wednesday, Kisangi returned alone and instructed a distraught Atieno to leave for her safety.

According to her statement, she found Kisangi with self-inflicted stab wounds upon waking. Fearing for her life, she fled the scene. A subsequent explosion engulfed the house, leaving the victim unrecognizable. Neighbours report witnessing frequent domestic discord and a noticeable shift in Kisangi’s demeanour. A former housemaid residing nearby corroborated these claims, describing a once jovial Kisangi reduced to a shell of his former self.

Kisangi’s professional background included operating a quarry in Nkuruka before venturing into the transportation of construction materials. The investigation took a dramatic turn when detectives began probing allegations of a love triangle. A woman, yet to appear before authorities, has been called in for questioning. Further complicating the case, the ownership of the house remains unclear. Discrepancies suggest the woman might be the rightful owner while whispers of another man residing in America with a potential stake in the property have surfaced.

Authorities, led by County Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) officer Simon Kirui, await the woman’s statement. Kisangi’s body awaits a post-mortem examination at Shalom Community Hospital. As the investigation progresses, detectives grapple with the complexities of a potential romantic entanglement, financial mysteries, and the ultimate cause of this tragic incident.
