Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are investigating the death of a woman who was allegedly pushed from the 10th floor of an apartment building in Kasarani, Nairobi County.

Witnesses report hearing a disturbance from the apartment in the early hours of the morning, followed by the discovery of the woman’s body on the ground floor by residents. The woman sustained severe injuries from the fall. Responding to emergency calls, officers from Kasarani Police Station secured the scene and cordoned off the apartment, which is used for short-term stays. This ensured the integrity of the crime scene as detectives began their investigation into the events leading to the woman’s tragic demise.

The woman’s identity remains unknown at this time. Authorities will notify the family once the body is identified. Additionally, a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. This incident highlights a disturbing trend of violence against women in Kenya. Recent data from Femicide Count Kenya reveals that ten women were tragically killed in January 2024 alone. Furthermore, 504 women have lost their lives between 2019 and 2024.

These concerning statistics have prompted advocacy groups to urge the government to take more decisive action. They are demanding official recognition of femicide as a national emergency and its inclusion in the country’s penal code. In December, two individuals suffered fatal falls from high-rise buildings in Kasarani. On December 18, 22-year-old Susan Ngima tragically lost her life after falling from the sixth floor of a residential building.

Witnesses reported seeing her jump from the balcony of Royban Apartments, and she died instantly. Just three days prior, Habel Onyancha, a banker, reportedly fell from the third floor of a separate building. According to available information, Mr Onyancha allegedly fell shortly after spending time with an unidentified woman.

CCTV footage from the night of the incident captured him struggling to climb the stairs of the woman’s residence after what appeared to be a night of partying. The footage showed the woman assisting him before they both entered the apartment. Tragically, Mr. Onyancha fell soon after, sustaining fatal injuries. He was rushed to St. Francis Community Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
