Yesterday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his political rival Ndindi Nyoro surprised the public by showcasing political camaraderie at a Harambee event in Kigumo, Murang’a County.
The once contentious relationship between these leaders seemed to thaw as they exchanged pleasantries and emphasized the importance of unity in the region. Mr Gachagua, in his speech, dismissed the immature succession debate with Kiharu MP Nyoro. He highlighted his extensive experience in politics, having worked alongside former Presidents Moi, Kibaki, and Kenyatta. He called for an end to divisive dialogue and stressed the need for unity and support for President Ruto’s administration.
In response to previous tensions surrounding his potential replacement as Ruto’s running mate in the 2027 elections, the Deputy President has now expressed his readiness to mentor young leaders for future leadership roles. He promised a smooth transition of leadership, criticizing what he saw as President Kenyatta’s abrupt departure without proper succession planning. During his address, Nyoro pledged unwavering support for both Gachagua and President Ruto, indicating a shift towards cooperation and collaboration within the region’s political landscape.
In other news, During the funeral of Kalonzo Musyoka’s brother-in-law, the focus was on determining the flag bearer for the Azimio la Umoja coalition. Azimio leader Raila Odinga reassured the Kamba community that he has no problem stepping aside and supporting Musyoka. Odinga emphasized the importance of including all coalition parties in the decision-making process and avoiding interference from the Kenya Kwanza government. To appease the Ukambani region, Raila acknowledged Musyoka’s significant contributions to his political endeavours and acknowledged his deserving of the ticket, but urged for patience.
