Drama transpired at a liquor store on Lumumba Drive near TRM Mall in Kasarani when a group of Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) officers apprehended a police officer accused of demanding bribes from traders.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, the EACC officers raided the shops to apprehend the officer from Kasarani Police Station, who was allegedly obstructing the traders’ activities. In a scene filled with tension, the police officer resisted arrest by gripping the liquor store rails tightly while shouting at the top of his lungs. To make matters more challenging, he handcuffed himself to the rails, prompting the EACC officer to approach him and remove the handcuffs.
Following a lead from a member of the public, EACC agents raided the shops to arrest a policeman from Kasarani Police Station accused of impeding traders from carrying out their business activities. The events that unfolded were filled with drama as the officer in question clung tightly to the rails of a liquor store and yelled vehemently while resisting the officers’ attempts to apprehend him. Additionally, he handcuffed himself to the rails of the store, further complicating the situation.
A group of officers hoisted him up from the floor while the rest tightly grasped him in an effort to apprehend him. Amidst the event, the police officer shouted, “Kill me! Kill me!” and expressed his grievances regarding his violated rights and the attack he suffered during the altercation. Despite his appeals, the resolute EACC officers persisted and successfully removed him from the alcohol establishment. They promptly placed him into a ready vehicle, which rapidly departed to an undisclosed destination.
The recent undertakings of the EACC have not solely focused on traffic police, but have extended to workers in offices across different sectors, including government officials who are suspected of corruption and fraudulent behaviour such as misusing funds and utilizing counterfeit or doctored certificates to secure state positions. Bishop David Oginde, leading the EACC, reminds people that in unforgiving cases like these, the money procured through illegal steps will be recuperated.
This warning was issued after a meeting with Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o on Monday, January 22. On Thursday, EACC investigators apprehended Garissa Water and Sewage Company Managing Director Dolal Mohamed Mohamud who was accused of falsifying his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Certificate to gain admission to a university degree program.
If follow up were to be done…
If follow up were to be done, you would find out that nothing happened to this thug of a policeman. His boss with whom he shares the loot , would transfer him,and tell him to laylow for a while.
Last week four crooks were caught red handed injecting prohibited substances into corrupt athletes. As we all know Kenya is on the A list of drug abusing athletes, and they risk being banned from international participation.Apparently even with the government sounding serious, and sprinkling afew shillings toward eradicating this crime has not helped.
Criminals in Kenya do not fear the law. They believe that they could get away by corrupting officials, and the judicial system. And there lies the problem.
