In the village of Kahiro, Kirinyaga County, a 60-year-old woman met a tragic end when she was Saturday murdered and her lifeless body discarded in a coffee plantation.
Witnesses reported that the woman’s body was discovered abandoned on the plantation, with Ksh 1500 still in her pocket. The Assistant Chief of the region received a troubling phone call from the village elders in the morning, informing him about the discovery of the body. After further inquiry, it was established that this dreadful incident took place on Saturday evening.
According to reports, unidentified assailants confronted the woman during her journey home, senselessly taking her life and callously discarding her body merely 500 meters away from her residence. The Assistant Chief verified that the attackers appeared solely focused on ending the woman’s life, as they left the Ksh 1500 undisturbed in her pocket. It was the locals who discovered the body while collecting firewood and immediately alerted the victim’s family about this heartbreaking incident.
Overwhelmed with shock, the family expressed their profound dismay and implored the government to thoroughly investigate this matter. Residents in the same vicinity have urged the government to implement regulations on the sale of alcohol and ownership of bars, as they believe it is contributing to the insecurity within the area. Concerned residents have emphasized the need for the government to consider these regulations when issuing licenses to alcohol sellers and bar owners.
This unfortunate incident is merely one among a series of femicide cases that have been reported throughout the country this year. In response, citizens of Kenya have taken to the streets in protest, aiming to shed light on the multitude of femicide instances where the circumstances surrounding the victims’ fatalities remain ambiguous.
