The Kenyan government has announced that significant deposits of coltan, a precious mineral used in the manufacture of phones, have been found in the country.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Salim Mvurya, who serves as the Cabinet Secretary of Mining and Blue Economy, unveiled the discovery of significant coltan deposits in six counties. Coltan, a prized metallic mineral mainly found in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is widely utilized in the production of popular electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, and video game consoles. This recent discovery in Kenya will further solidify the nation’s standing as a notable exporter of minerals.
Embu, situated on the eastern slopes of Mt Kenya, is one of the counties where the valuable mineral has been discovered. Similar findings have also been made in Samburu, Turkana, West Pokot, and Tana River. Mr Mvurya made this declaration at the administrative centre of Embu County, stating that the government is currently evaluating the potential economic benefits of these deposits. He further expressed the government’s intention to invigorate the mining sector and attract investors.
The survey of minerals in different counties will receive assistance from newly recruited workers. The CS shared that a total of 970 mineral discoveries have been documented across the country and highlighted the imminent commencement of mining operations. To accelerate the examination of minerals, dedicated laboratories will be set up in every county.
“To assess the mineral quality in specific regions, we will establish laboratories in eight different areas for sample analysis,” he affirmed.
The Cabinet Secretary (CS) and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire have joined forces to eradicate illegal miners who have invaded the industry. They have pledged to set up labs in eight regions to assess samples and assess the mineral quality found in different areas. This commitment will ensure that unlawful miners are eliminated and the industry is protected.

100%spot on @#Seneca.I also smell a rat by an admin. that might be trying to stop the KSH from plummetting further to record lows. This news broke out after the Bloomberg news report showing KsH as being the 2nd worst performer in Africa so far in 2024 and predicting the USD to KSH: 210 by year-end.BUT if this news of discovering COLTAN mineral turns out to be true, then the Chinese will be salivating at the prospect of using these rare metals as collateral for their loans.Let’s wait and see. Both ways folks are going to be played.

Very good questions, but only the ghost bursters can provide you with a clear answer! Hii ni serikol ya wakale – some known thieves who steals everything and leaves nothing for the future generations! Some black coal looking looters….

I hope this isn’t the curse we have been waiting for to become the DRC, war and gluttony grand corruption!!!
We had oil discovery that never flew!!!
You would think Ruto will…
You would think Ruto will use the money to pay off the heavy debts which he keeps saying that in shs 7 goes to servicing the debt out of every shs 10. Mixed priorities, corruption and theft tends to rule the day in Kenya. The black race is very cursed from Heavens above! But again one wonders how Kagame is able to run his country without too much corruption like we have in Kenya.
Why do these fools need to…
Why do these fools need to set up 8 labs to test and analyze something they are not sure about? Why???? It is a national resource which should be handled by the national government and not every Tom, Dick and Harry! Set up one lab to do the analysis work to minimize the cost of mining the damn thing! Shit, is it that freaking difficult to use your stupid brains?
This discovery is more of a…
This discovery is more of a curse than a blessing to Kenya. Ruto and his crooked scions have already deeper their dirty hands in the mineral! Chirchir will soon declare that the amount found was of no commercial use. Watch this lane….
The locals and County Govt…
The locals and County Govt must protect this new found fortune. Good thought there by Gov Mbarire to get rid of illegal miners. We need order in this sector so we don’t end up in chaos like Eastern DRC.
But who is Mbarire? Just…
But who is Mbarire? Just another thief securing the stone for her and Ruto to benefit! Don’t be surprised to see Rachel Ruto with some heavy black eye on both eyes!
Stop the negativity like…
Stop the negativity like losers. Minerals and oil isn’t a curse. As a man thinketh so is he. Wars in Africa isn’t caused by minerals but weak governance and foreign interference. Botswana is quiet and doing diamonds well for decades. I’m glad counties will get a good percentage of it.
Did understand the usage of…
Did understand the usage of the word “curse” in regard to oil and minerals in Africa before you jumped up to offer your two senses? Which African country is managing its oil/mineral resource to benefit the ordinary people? Stop preaching to others like your Ruto does and he does the opposite of what he aught to do! Just keep on your silly “man thinketh crap….!

Get ready for civil war.
Get ready for civil war.
f this is indeed true, Kenya…
f this is indeed true, Kenya will not benefit much from the minerals, the West will. The common practice when dealing with African countries is to give them 9% or 10% of the minerals worth and tie the rest to loans and access to their markets to sell raw materials but not finished products. I like the position Museveni took with the French when they wanted to construct an oil pipeline from Uganda to Mombasa where they would load the oil in their ships. Kaguta wants a refinery built in Uganda and now that is a leader with balls. Ruto wenu ata do nini? Ngojeni mtaona upumbavu.
All what that means is that…
All what that means is that we shall be beginning Haiti ?? to send over their troops to help us!!! You see the irony there ??
