The ongoing power struggle between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for political dominance in the Mt Kenya region, as well as their aspirations to succeed President William Ruto, escalated on Friday as certain MPs rallied behind the Deputy President.
Following a recent assembly led by Nyoro in Murang’a, Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi assembled a team of MPs who are in favour of the Deputy President at Karatina Stadium, demonstrating their backing for him. The competition between Nyoro and Gachagua’s followers emerged promptly after the 2022 elections, causing an ongoing state of political strain in the area despite the next election being slated for 2027. Several leaders have voiced their aspiration to take charge of the Mt Kenya area, succeeding former President Uhuru Kenyatta and obtaining authority over the region’s substantial electoral strength, which wields considerable sway in the country’s political landscape.
In addition to Nyoro and Gachagua, other leaders who are considered potential contenders for leading the Mt Kenya region include Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, and opposition leader Martha Karua. Inquisitive minds seek to uncover the forces driving this push. Gachagua, however, has brushed aside his adversaries, asserting that it is premature to commence campaigning. Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga declared on Friday that Gachagua is the most seasoned politician in the Mt Kenya region.
He mentioned that there is no internal conflict and that they will all support Gachagua. He further urged other leaders to exercise patience. According to the senator, the political squabbles witnessed are merely friendly fire, thus, they should not be misconstrued as a battle for political dominance. The leaders expressed their support for the implementation of government projects. They also voiced their approval of President Ruto’s efforts to eliminate corruption from the legal system.
Other Members of Parliament who were present included James Kamau from Kabete, Michael Muchira from Oljoro-orok, Irene Njoki from Bahati, Gachoki Gitari from Kirinyaga Central, and John Kaguchia from Mukurwe-ini. Jane Kagiri, the Laikipia Woman Representative, and Maina Karobia, an EALA MP, were also in attendance.
Let best man win this dirty…
Let best man win this dirty war of childish politics!
This is embarrassing. I was…
This is embarrassing. I was born into the Gikuyu community but I consider myself an intelligent, independent individual. I’m able to make independent intellectual decisions and thus far I don’t need a tribal leader who pretends to speak on my behalf. These characters who by default have found themselves in positions of power need to find something better to do to build their ego rather than purport to represent me. I am part of the diaspora, my constituency is global, and I don’t need these desperados speaking for me. The struggling folk in the villages also don’t really care about these ” kingship” campaigns, they simply want a meal on the table. God help Kenya.
These two shameless fools…
These two shameless fools aught to stop their madness!
