The KCSE results for 2023 have been published.
Instead of the usual Knec headquarters in Nairobi, the Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu surprised everyone by announcing the results at Moi Girls High School in Eldoret. Of the 903,260 individuals who participated in the exams, a total of 1,216 individuals managed to attain a Grade A, surpassing the previous year’s figure of 1,146. Among these Grade A achievers, national schools accounted for the highest number with 889, while extra county schools had 172.
Additionally, a noteworthy 201,133 candidates scored a C+ or higher, whereas 48,000 individuals received a Grade E. It is important to note that the results of 4,113 candidates are currently being withheld due to suspected cheating. Furthermore, four instances of impersonation have already been identified, leading to the cancellation of these individuals’ results.
The results are accessible on the website: https://results.knec.ac.ke. Before the announcement, Machogu updated President William Ruto on the examination outcomes at Eldoret State Lodge. After the update, President Ruto instructed a probe into the non-participation of 3,000 registered candidates in the exams and advocated for stringent actions against exam cheaters. In August, Machogu declared the introduction of a new grading system aimed at boosting university admissions.
Unlike in previous years, the 2023 KCSE results will not be available through SMS code. In his address, the CS revealed that there was a decrease in performance in subjects such as English, History and Government, Geography, and Agriculture. Machogu also highlighted a decline in performance in Physics, power mechanics, art and design, and Home science. He voiced his apprehension about the notable increase in the number of students attaining an E grade. To be precise, an astounding 48,174 candidates, making up 5.33 per cent, achieved this grade.
