Ekuru Aukot Claims Ruto Lacks Confidence in 2022 Election Victory
Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot

Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot now claims that President William Ruto’s actions indicate a lack of confidence in his victory in the August 2022 presidential election.

In light of the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) recommendations, Aukot has voiced his criticism regarding their disregard for the Constitution. Additionally, he condemned Nadco for undermining the Supreme Court’s ruling on last year’s presidential election by agreeing to audit the results as demanded by the Opposition. Aukot remarks that the outcome of the Bomas political negotiations cited in the NADCO record apparently flouts the nation’s constitution by their proposition of the Opposition leader’s position.

He affirms that President William Ruto is not confident he won the 2022 elections. These comments are made in response to Ruto’s commitment to fully implement the Nadco recommendations. Nadco’s final report features numerous recommendations, addressing concerns from both sides of the political divide, however, cost of living remains a contentious topic that the committee has failed to resolve.

The discussions centered on important topics, including Azimio’s tax concerns, the finance act, and the Housing Levy. The committee encountered challenges in reaching a consensus on various proposals regarding the cost of living, such as lowering fuel VAT and abolishing the housing levy. The report, signed by Kalonzo Musyoka and Kimani Ichung’wah provides a thorough account of these matters.

President William Ruto on Sunday commended the National Dialogue Committee, affirming the government’s commitment to thoroughly reviewing all the suggestions presented in the report. He stressed the urgency of implementing executive recommendations and vowed to actively pursue their enactment in Parliament.
