Former Lamu Senator Faces Charges in Sh6 Million Fraud Case
Anuar Loitiptip

Anuar Loitiptip, the ex-Senator of Lamu, has been brought before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and charged with deceitfully receiving Sh6 million.

On Thursday, Loitiptip appeared in court and refuted the allegations made against him. According to the first charge, the former senator is accused of producing a bogus motor vehicle registration certificate and passing it off as a legitimate NTSA document. The second charge claims that he deliberately deceived Samson Malonza by presenting him with a fake vehicle registration certificate bearing the registration number KDA 005C in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa estate, all on the same day.

Lastly, Loitiptip faces a third accusation of dishonestly obtaining Sh6 million by convincing someone that he could sell them a Toyota Land Cruiser V8. When defending himself in court, the former senator requested a compassionate bond, citing financial difficulties he had encountered since losing his position in last year’s elections.

Living in Lamu with a young family, the accused expressed his earnest desire to settle the dispute outside the legal system. Besides, he disclosed his dependence on periodic medical assistance. Consequently, He was released on a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh700 000. The case will be mentioned on November 13.

“Your honour, I bought the vehicle at Sh12 million from the complainant who is a friend, but I sold it at Sh6 million to finance my campaigns. I come from Lamu, I have a young family and I intend to solve the matter out of court with the complainant,” he said.
