New British High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan

Neil Wigan has officially begun his role as the new High Commissioner to Kenya, taking up the position of Head of Mission at the British High Commission in Nairobi.

Taking over as Kenya’s UK High Commissioner at an opportune time when the relationship between the two countries is blossoming, Wigan has expressed his enthusiasm for this role. He takes a particular liking for the country, having been in Kenya in the seventies with his kids receiving their education in Nairobi. Furthermore, he aims to bolster the relationship between the two countries with a keen look at enhancing British investment in green infrastructure projects worth £500 million.

Wigan believes that the bilateral undertakings will improve the lives of Kenyans, promote sustainable development, and help tackle climate change. He is looking forward to seeing these projects and other partnerships between Kenya and the UK. After serving as the UK’s ambassador to Israel since June 2019, Neil has now been appointed as the UK’s High Commissioner to Kenya. His arrival coincides with King Charles III’s upcoming visit to Kenya.

“These projects, among others, will improve the lives of Kenyans, boost sustainable development, and help tackle climate change. I look forward to seeing these projects and other UK-Kenya partnerships,” said Wigan.

The appointment comes at an exciting time for the relationship between the UK and Kenya, as progress is being made in various areas of their Strategic Partnership, including climate change, mutual prosperity, sustainable development, people-to-people connections, and security cooperation. The UK is working with Kenya to improve the lives and livelihoods of its people, while also promoting Kenya’s role as a stabilizing force in the region through their defence partnership.
