Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has disputed the court’s decision to postpone its ruling on the bail application of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga.
Njenga was apprehended along with his brother and personal assistant at their father’s home in Kiserian. The Makadara Chief Magistrate, Francis Kyambia, remanded him at the Industrial Area remand prison pending the ruling on the bail application on Tuesday. Karua has criticized the court’s decision, stating that the verdict on bail is a straightforward matter that should not be deferred.
Njenga, a close ally of Raila Odinga, was allegedly apprehended in connection with the anti-government protests organized by the Azimio leader. The prosecution on Monday opposed his release on bond, citing his recent charge in a Nakuru court and the possibility of him committing additional crimes based on his character record. The charge sheet indicated that Njenga and his co-accused were found with offensive weapons at the time of their arrest. According to the charge sheet, the trio were found in possession of offensive weapons including 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus and three jembe sticks. Police had conveyed that the weapons may be detrimental to public order.
Meanwhile, a Malindi Court has released Jubilee blogger Pauline Njoroge and two others who were previously charged with cyber-related offences. The accused denied all charges. The state had requested a 30-day hold but later abandoned the application during the session. As a result, the court ruled that the three individuals could be set free since the application for custodial orders was dropped. However, the investigation is ongoing, and police have been granted permission to search Njoroge’s home during the day in the accused’s presence. Further direction will be given on Wednesday.
