Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga Teargassed in Nairobi
Smoke Pillows From Central Police Station on Saturday July 8, 2023

On Saturday, the police teargassed former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga at the Central Police Station.

Mutunga had gone there to help free the activists who had been arrested during the Saba Saba protest on Friday. It is reported that one person got hurt during the incident as the station was plagued by an uproar. The former CJ was flanked by activists Boniface Mwangi, Victor Kamau from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and city lawyer Lempaa Soyinka.

“Imagine brutalising, and teargassing peaceful citizens at a police station! Congratulations @WilliamsRuto, and @rigathi @IG_NPS for showing your true colours. Watoto wa Moi ni Moi. Our Constitution is supreme and resistance to dictatorship and impunity is our life duty! KANU 2.0,” Mwangi posted on his Twitter account.

The group had visited the station on Friday evening demanding the release of 32 peaceful citizens arrested for participating in the protests. Earlier that day, Mutunga had bought food and water for the arrested activists. He declared that the police were wrong to detain them, citing Article 37 of the 2010 Constitution of Kenya. On Saturday, they again strived for the release, attracting a bigger gathering at the station which the police perceived as a threat. The officers lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd, forcing Mutunga and his group to flee for safety.

On Friday, Azimio launched their initiative to pressure Ruto out of office. Odinga spoke at the Kamukunji rally where he urged his followers to march to Central Park where he had planned to deliver another speech. His convoy was however met with a contingent of anti-riot officers who denied the protesters entry into the city centre.

  1. If Raila wants Ruto out of…
If Raila wants Ruto out of office, there is only one constitutional way in Kenya. Let him wait for 2027 and ask for peoples’vote. Former CJ should be involved in high powered closed door deliberations between the Azimio and UDA group insearch of a rational adult initiated resolutions for the dispute between the two groups. He shouldn’t be loitering around police stations brining food and water to demonstrators caught burning property and throwing stones in the streets of Nairobi. That is the work of Borniface Mwangi and other Raila’s footmen whose only grievance is that Raila keep loosing elections.

Do not attack the messenger. Mumbi is just delivering a spiritual message. There are those who understand that message and there are those who don’t.
If the message is not for you, don’t listen to it.
She is effective, that’s the reason she is being attacked.
To maintain our sanity, let each of us keep to his/her own lane.

  4. What does Mutura stand for?…
What does Mutura stand for? Did absolutely nothing except propping up the peoples conman when he was supreme!!!

  5. In our foreign education…
In our foreign education system, at what stage do grown men become elders in the society?
At what stage does one differentiate his age from that of the young ones?
At what stage does one hold society responsibility?
CJ Mutunga should at this stage be a respected elder in society.
CJ Mutunga should not join hands with the likes of Boniface Mwangi, one who has no respect for our social values- one who plants LGBTQ flag on our holy mountain- Mt Kenya to impress the colonizers.
CJ Mutunga should know better- But we all know the colonial education system makes us fools of who we are.

  6. It took but just a few years…
It took but just a few years for the Moi regime to reappear!!
For those here young enough to know what Moi was like as president, you’re seeing for yourself!
He didn’t tolerate any alternative ideas or criticism!
Lots of folks paid with their lives!
It was a police state with tear gas, arrests, murders, etc especially of innocent bystanders!
Ruto is a student of Moi politics!
    Like teacher like student!!
