On Friday morning, Nairobians went about their daily tasks as Opposition figures and supporters organized a day of protests.
There was a heavy presence of police around Kamukunji grounds with the heavy downpour preventing people in opposition strongholds from gathering early as they had been doing in the past protests against the Kenya Kwanza government. Traffic was smooth and easy on Thika Super Highway, Outering Road, and Juja Road as most drivers chose to stay away. At Kamukunji Grounds, where Azimio leaders are set to speak, the youth ignored the chill and came together, dancing to keep warm while waiting for the opposition bigwigs.
“The rain will not stop us from holding our maandamano. We must demonstrate against this regime,” said a youth.
Anti-riot police have been deployed to Mathare and Huruma, regions that were battlegrounds in the May 2, 2023 protests. Previous demonstrations usually began peacefully but soon escalated, with demonstrators clashing with anti-riot forces and blocking streets, hindering people’s freedom of movement. Raila Odinga had announced that the Saba Saba rally will be held all over the country.
In Kisii, residents took to the streets setting tires on fire and clashing with police in a bid to protest their frustration with the increased cost of living. Police armed with riot gear and led by County Commander Charles Kasses attempted to break up the protests by launching tear gas canisters, but the protesters refused to retreat. Barricades were erected along the Kisii-Kilgoris and Kisii-Keroka roads.
Those interviewed by journalists expressed their discontent with the rising cost of living and vowed to continue the protests until President William Ruto takes action. Daniel Nyabwari, a protester, insisted the protests are not sponsored and have been initiated by the people themselves. To prevent disruption at the local Agricultural show, extra security measures have been taken in the downtown area. A few of the attendees were unfortunately caught in the chaos.
These damn fools don’t even…

When you use derogatory…
When you use derogatory tribal language to express your point, it kind of lenders your point irrelevant!
Raila has done more to advance democratic freedoms in Kenya than Ruto could ever accomplish in 2 lifetimes!
You’re free to disagree with his tactics, as I do, but he is deserving of respect!
SABASABA DAY TODAY IN KENYA…
SABASABA DAY TODAY IN KENYA
Ndugu Samoei is embarrassing our nation. Why? He should learn from the USA that citizens have a right to demonstrate without the government in power arresting peaceful demonstrators.
The former President of the USA Ndugu Donald Trump has been holding public meetings and demonstrating publicly SINCE 2020 when he lost the election.
The current sitting President of the US Ndugu Joe Biden has not sent armed police officers with rifles and tear gas to stop Donald from holding public meetings while still claiming that he won the election.
Samoei’s inexperience in leadership is embarrassing Kenyans all over the world especially, when he authorizes peaceful demonstrations be stopped when held by the members of the opposition. He should allow peaceful demonstrations or resign.
What happened to the former governor of Nyandarua today is a shame to democracy and should not be allowed to happen again in Kenya.
Samoei was a vice president for ten years and seems to have learned nothing about civility during the entire time. He is not fit for office.
Ndugu Mpilo Tutu once said: ” If you are silent in situations of injustice, you have taken the side of the oppressor.”
Kenyans: Wake up! Nyayo Days are back again.
