Sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) apprehended seven suspects over the weekend for being in possession of narcotic drugs.
The suspects were nabbed in Nairobi based on an informant’s tip-off in an operation conducted by Starehe-based detectives. The suspects are accused of trafficking narcotics, being in possession of narcotics, and plotting to commit a crime. They are currently in police custody and will face charges in line with the accusations.
“In the raid over 10 kilograms of weed, 450 rolls of the same substance, weighing scales, daggers and gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen were recovered. A vehicle used to transport the highly addictive drug in different parts of the city was also impounded,” DCI said in a tweet.
On June 12, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addressed a gathering of drug addicts on the abuse of drugs in Tharaka Nithi. The DP was speaking at the third regional stakeholder’s meeting in the efforts to combat the illegal sale, use, and consumption of alcohol, narcotics, and other psychotropic substances. Gachagua implored the officers present to take charge of the prevention of drugs and illicit alcohol to protect the younger generations. He also appealed to them to reject any bribes related to drugs, saying that the money would not be helpful.
On May 22, 250 cannabis plants were seized in Mlolongo, Machakos County. Mlolongo County Assistant Commissioner Dennis Ongaga reported that the outlawed drug was found as part of a multi-agency Rapid Response crackdown on illicit brews and drugs. 63 litres of chang’aa, 6 litres of busaa, and 8 rolls of bhang were also confiscated. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Mlolongo OCS, the area chief, and members of community policing.
